Ding Dong!

Christmas light-hearted fun with bellsfor mixed ensemble

Sextet: Flute, Bb clarinet, percussion, piano, violin, cello and crystal glasses

Ding Dong! is a meditation on bells – hence the title, but also the reference to our children’s nursery song – “Ding, dong, bell, pussy’s in the well”, the Wizard of Oz – “Ding, dong the witch is dead” and the carol – “Ding, dong merrily on high!”

Christmas is a time of nostalgia and memories and this piece rings with cheery bells and chimes for listeners to float into that space.

Written in 1994, this 6-minute piece is suitable for advanced musicians. It was commissioned by Nexus for its Christmas concert of 13 Adelaide composers “A Nexus Noel”.
